Parents
can often be more nervous and scared then their kids on the first day of school
·
There
are many reasons that cause fear in parents when their kids start school
·
They
are afraid their kids will be scared in the new environment
·
Their
kids won’t be able to finds their way around or get lost
·
Their
kids will be nervous to the point that they won’t eat lunch or use the bathroom
when they need to
·
They
will miss their parents
· They
won’t have the help they need to handle all of the new situations and kids and
people they will be meeting
·
They
won’t make friends
·
They
will be behind the class when it comes to learning
·
The
will miss their bus or other ride
·
They
won’t be able to get help if they need it from their teachers or teacher’s
assistants
·
They
will get tired throughout the day not being used to putting in a full day or
half day as they are now needed to do
All
of these fears and concerns are easily taken care of as long as you prepare for
them and prepare your child adequately for all of the new experiences and
interactions that will be happening with them. Role playing with your child can
do wonders for not just your child but also you as you walk through potential situations
that could come up and how to handle them. In a future post I will cover some
examples of great role playing exercises that will help you and your child to
prevent any fear or anxiety as your kids become students and then young adults.
